Although we are in times of crisis, the Greek products are the best supporters of our country. 

Greek cuisine is part of Mediterranean cuisine.  In fact the simple and traditional Greek Mediterranean diet, is considered standard healthy diet and studies have shown that contributes to health and longevity and is known worldwide for quality products and the delicious recipes. It is undoubted that where used the correct raw materials always the result is excellent.

Archestratos at 300 BC wrote the first cookbook in history and said that the kitchen is a sign of civilization. The Ancient Greek cuisine was characterized by the simplicity and it was based on wheat - olive oil and wine.  The fish and the meat were used less.  This trend in Greek nutrition continued in Roman and Ottoman times and was changed over the years.

 

Even though the Greek cuisine uses some flavours more often than other Mediterranean cuisines, namely: oregano, mint, garlic, onion, dill, thyme, fennel seeds and bay leaves, integral part of the Greek cuisine is olive oil, which characterises the taste of Greek food.

 

What distinguishes traditional Greek cuisine is a combination of many factors, such as unique ingredients and Greek philosophy regarding eating.​ 

 

Greek cuisine has four key secrets that characterize it:

  • fresh quality materials

  • proper usage of herbs and spices

  • the famous Greek olive oil

  • simplicity

 

Also, lets not forget that :

 

  • herbs are collected by most Greeks at the mountains and the countryside, with beautiful aromas and healing properties.

  • the Greek cheeses from the milk of animals grazing in the meadows rich in herbs.

  • ​meats that have a unique flavour that does not exist anywhere else in the world.

  • the seafood from the Mediterranean Sea, which is much more delicious than the oceans. ​At the Aegean and Ionian Sea, the waters are crystal clear and plenty in fish.

 

All these and much more, make the Greek cuisine to be a combination of many factors, among which the unique ingredients and the Greek philosophy regarding eating.
