Jams & Spoon Sweets

 

One of the most traditional Greek products, the spoon sweets which where created thousands of years ago, from the necessity for people to preserve the vast amounts of fruits and vegetables to spare from the crop.

Indeed, one of the most classic techniques used by housewives was to dry all fruits in the sun, while later came the special maintenance in syrup, fruit boiling and turning them into jams.

Of course the term "spoon sweet" came centuries later, when our grate grandfathers and our grate grandmothers, served the spoon sweets in a large bowl with many small spoons or even in small plates of course with a small spoon. The jam was the most welcome treat for all households and guests seemed to enjoy it much.

In later years of Greek history and even today, the spoon sweets can be found in almost every household.   In recent years they have also become very popular as visitors select spoon sweets and take them as gifts or treats in their countries.
